Who owns Eaden Yarns and where are you based?

Eaden yarns is small company based on the south coast of England, in Hove and is owned by Kristina Stacey.

What does Eaden Yarns specialize in?

Eaden Yarns specializes in hand painted and hand dyed spinning fibre and fine yarns. We love natural fibres, animal as well as plant based ones, Merino, Alpaca, Bluefaced Leicester, Silk being some of our favourites.

What dyes do you use?

We use professional Acid and Procion MX dyes.

What is the difference between hand painted and hand dyed yarn and fibre?

The difference is in the technique. When hand painting, we treat our base yarn and fibre as our canvas and apply the dye to it as if we were painting and heat set if afterwards. This is the technique we use the most. Some of our semi solid yarns are hand dyed, which means the dye bath is prepared first and the yarn added to it and heat set on the stove.

How do I care for my hand dyed or hand painted yarn and fibre?

Many of the fibres and yarns we use are superwash treated and can be machine washed on wool cycle with a gentle detergent. We would still recommend hand washing your lovingly hand spun and hand knit items. So much effort goes into knitting, crocheting and hand spinning, they deserve this special treatment.  We take extra care to make sure the dye is set and dye baths are exhausted. A very small amount of dye bleeding can occur during the first wash, therefore we always recommend washing your hand spun or hand knit items on their own for the first time.
